Excellence Playa Mujeres Review: Is This All-Inclusive Casita Worth the Hype?

We booked a honeymoon package directly with the hotel for a nine-day trip from Los Angeles to Cancun, flying Delta economy on a cash ticket. From the start, the resort did a great job making the stay feel special rather than generic.

We stayed in a spacious two-story casita with a private plunge pool, and the room setup was one of the highlights of the trip. It felt much bigger and more memorable than a standard all-inclusive room, and having the plunge pool made it easy to relax without always needing to go to the main pool areas.

The arrival details were especially well done. The room was decorated beautifully when we checked in, and the hotel also handled my birthday during the stay with the same level of care. It felt thoughtful rather than formulaic.

Excellence Playa Mujeres is located away from the main Cancun hotel strip, which ended up being a real positive for this kind of trip. The setting felt quieter, more polished, and more self-contained than staying in the busier main drag area.

Most of the trip was happily spent at the resort, but we did one day trip to Isla Mujeres. We took a golf cart and did a self-driving loop around the island, which was a fun break from resort time. The beaches there were excellent and easily one of the best off-property parts of the trip.

The strongest thing about Excellence was how complete the experience felt. The hotel itself was immaculate, the staff was consistently kind and excellent, and the property had enough to do that a long stay still felt enjoyable.

The pools and lazy river were both great, and the nightly entertainment was fun without making the resort feel loud or tacky. Dining was also a strength. We tried all of the restaurants, and the French restaurant was our favorite. One night the hotel arranged a celebration dinner for us, which added another memorable touch.

Overall, this was a five-star experience for us. The service, room, food, and attention to the occasion all came together in a way that made the trip feel genuinely special.
