How to Do Disneyland Paris as a Day Trip from Paris (Without the Headaches)

Why we did it as a day trip
We visited Disneyland Paris as a day trip while staying in central Paris, and that ended up being the right call for this trip. It let us keep our Paris base intact and avoid turning one park day into a hotel-switch exercise.
For families already staying in Paris, that is probably the sweet spot unless the parks are the main point of the whole France trip.

How it compared with Anaheim
Disneyland Paris was nice and very easy to enjoy, but it did not feel especially vast or all that spectacular if you are already used to Disneyland Anaheim.
The best comparison is that it felt a bit like an updated version of Anaheim rather than a completely different Disney experience.
What we liked
The park worked well for a family day and slotted cleanly into the larger Europe trip. It gave the kids a familiar kind of fun in the middle of a very city-heavy route, which helped the whole trip stay balanced.
If your kids love Disney, it is still worth doing. We just would not oversell it as a must-do destination on its own if you already know the California parks well.
Bottom line
We were glad we went, but the bigger lesson was that Disneyland Paris works best as a supporting day trip rather than the centerpiece. Paris itself was the place we wished we had given more time.
That is probably the clearest way to frame it: good addition, not the main event.
